I don't have any online aliases. Despite being bombarded by internet safety tips during childhood, I never took any of the warnings to heart. So I'm simply David, here and out there too. I was born on December 29th, 2000 (always late as you can see, but still proud of those triple zeroes, babe!) in Mexico, where I reside to these days.
I'm currently an Anthropology major (previously History), although my career path remains uncertain. So many things one could do, and so little time. Religion, Egyptology and East Asian studies are the topics I'm drawn to the most, as they kickstarted my interest in cultures ever since I was a wee lad.
Moving on from the formalities, I can be accurately described as a japanese ACG aficionado —or a gamer and otaku, for short—, and a goth. These identities have become pretty mainstream nowadays, for better or worse, but naturally, I grew up being a tad different from the other kids, which led me to develop indoor based hobbies. Amongst them was using the computer.
Internet back then still used to be rather expensive, so before I got to access it, I enjoyed creating childish masterpieces in Paint on one of those bulky white desktop computers. Eventually my father allowed me to use his laptop, so I'd play whatever preinstalled games it had, such as the iconic Purble Place. 'Round 2009, I was finally able to surf the web. My earliest memories of it are linked to Potter Puppet Pals, Full Moon wo Sagashite as my first anime outside of TV, Sonata Arctica as my first metal band and the discovery of the gothic subculture. DeviantArt and SNAFU comics soon followed. From there on out, it's all about early 2010s internet culture... And then, to the way things are, half rotten and nowhere near as cool as it used to be.
It's safe to say the various things I came across in my younger years played a vital role in shaping me as an individual. Not in the same way iPad kids grow up though... I found my place in the net because I was different, just like the net. (Wanting to stand out much man?) Now it's the norm, all engulfing, sanitized and monetized.
Anyways. You can learn more about me by reading the little windows, which you can drag around! :-)
Even though my obligatory IT classes covered HTML basics, I always struggled to grasp any of it.
My coding "experience" can be summed up to playing Frankenstein with snippets of free-to-use codes found across the net for silly sites like Tumblr and Carrd —a joke, really. This is one of the reasons why I had been putting off setting up my Neocities, despite having an account since 2020. Coupled with that... I wasn't sure what to make of it. I don't think I'm interesting enough to have a whole ass site, nor do I have anything particularly impressive to show the world. But I figured it didn't really matter. Even if it's just for myself, having a corner 'round here is nice. I want to express the entirety of me, even if I don't always know how to do so. Whether it's my sense of aesthetics, my musings, the games I love or digital trinkets, I want to showcase it all and have fun while doing it, audience or not.
"Neverending 2000s fever dream" is something I came up way before 2020, as a cool phrase of sorts, if you will. I wanted to convey the nostalgia that permeates life, making one yearn for better times through fuzzy memories... Or something like that. In short, expect the retro and bizarro. The username "keistrife", that I've surprisingly managed to stick with for a couple years now, comes from the 'kei' in visual kei, and 'strife' in Cloud Strife. Pretty neat, huh?
